Crossroads Farmer’s Market seeks volunteers, vendors

crossroadspic1Though we may be in the thick of winter, spring really is just around the corner– and we are currently accepting vendor applications for the 2010 market season. Know of any local producers? Interested in selling at our market? Please circulate (or fill out the application by March 31st!) and help us grow our list of 2010 vendors! E-mail crossroadsmarket@gmail.com for more information or for an application.

As the Market continues to grow, we’re also recruiting volunteers. At present, we are looking for the following:

  1. One food justice-loving web guru. We are looking to build a new website, and are seeking a volunteer to help us lay the groundwork. We are certain you agree that  http://crossroadsproject.org/ just doesn’t cut it! We intend to maintain a new website ourselves, but could use the initial assistance in setting it up.
  2. Volunteer(s) to come be a part of the weekly market community by helping one of our produce vendors sell at Crossroads Market on Wednesdays, June-October.
  3. Volunteers to help us recruit new farmers, bakers, artisans, and other local prepared food vendors by taking a moment to forward this email! Or contact us directly if there are any producers you think we should be in touch with.

To hear more about the what Crossroads staff have been up to in the off-season and our vision for the coming season, please take a moment to read “Vouchers for Veggies,” an article by former NYT staff writer Marian Burros in the most recent issue of Flavor magazine. Or, register for the free Rooting DC summit on February 20th, where Crossroads staff will be participating in a discussion on creating just food systems.

As always, thank you all for your continued support and interest in the Crossroads Market!

The Crossroads Farmers Market, located at the Takoma Park/Langley Park crossroads, was the first farmers market in the state of Maryland to accept federal nutrition benefits and the first in the country to launch a “Double Dollars” initiative, an incentive program in which the market matches federal nutrition benefits with additional coupons for use at market.
